How to Connect 3CX to a Kenyan SIP Trunk (3CX v20)
Add a Sautikit Kenyan number to 3CX v20 as a Generic VoIP Provider (Registration) trunk: registrar, port 5080, auth ID, DID, inbound and outbound rules.
Add a Sautikit Kenyan number to 3CX v20 as a Generic VoIP Provider (Registration) trunk: registrar, port 5080, auth ID, DID, inbound and outbound rules.
3CX ships no phone numbers or minutes, so it needs a SIP trunk. To use a Kenyan Sautikit number as that trunk in 3CX v20, go to Admin > Voice & Chat > Add Trunk, choose Generic VoIP Provider (Registration), and enter: Main Trunk Number = your Sautikit number, Authentication ID = your Sautikit SIP username, Authentication password = your SIP password, Registrar/Server = sip.sautikit.com, and, with Auto-discovery turned off, Registrar/Server Port = 5080. Add the number on the DID tab, point it at a destination, and create an outbound rule. The number costs KES 500 a month, inbound calls are free and outbound calls cost KES 3.00 a minute billed per second, with no trunk contract.
| 3CX field | Value |
|---|---|
| Provider | Generic VoIP Provider (Registration) |
| Main Trunk Number | your Sautikit number, for example +254709000000 |
| Authentication ID | your Sautikit SIP username (starts with ep) |
| Authentication password | your Sautikit SIP password |
| Registrar/Server | sip.sautikit.com |
| Auto-discovery | off |
| Registrar/Server Port | 5080 |
| Outbound Proxy | leave empty |
| Type of authentication | Registration/Account based |
| Transport protocol | UDP |
| Codec priority | G.711 U-law (PCMU), then G.711 A-law (PCMA) |
On the DID Numbers tab, click +Add and enter your Sautikit number in the same format as the Main Trunk Number.
On the Options tab, set the transport to UDP and put G.711 U-law and A-law at the top of Codec priority. Click Save. Within a minute the trunk should show as registered in Voice & Chat.
In Sautikit: open the number, set Forward to the 3CX device's extension (the one shown on its SIP & Devices row), and save. Calls to the number now ring the 3CX trunk.
In 3CX: assign the DID to where calls should land: a ring group, queue or digital receptionist under Call Handling, or a user under Users > General > Assigned DID Number(s).
Under Outbound Rules, send the calls you choose through the Sautikit trunk. Sautikit dials E.164, so make the rule turn local numbers into +254 format: for calls that start with 0 and are 10 digits long, strip 1 digit and prepend +254. Calls already dialled as +254… need no change.
Outgoing calls always show your Sautikit number as caller ID, whatever 3CX sets, so nobody can send calls from a number you do not own.
For deeper fixes, see 3CX trunk errors 403, 408 and 488 and 3CX one-way audio and dropped calls.
The trunk does not register. Check Auto-discovery is off and the port is 5080. Check the registrar has no sip: prefix. On an on-premise install, run 3CX's firewall checker and allow outbound UDP.
Registration is refused. The Authentication ID must be the generated username, not your phone number. Copy the password again with SIP setup on the device's row in Sautikit.
Inbound calls do not arrive. Check the Sautikit number forwards to the 3CX device's extension, and that the DID in 3CX matches the number's format exactly.
Outbound calls fail with the trunk registered. Check the outbound rule produces +254… numbers and that your Sautikit wallet has credit.

Yes. 3CX lists "Bring your own trunk & numbers" as a feature. A Sautikit number works as a registration-based trunk: KES 500 a month, free inbound calls, outbound at KES 3.00 a minute billed per second.
5080 over UDP, at sip.sautikit.com. Turn off Auto-discovery in 3CX to enter it.
Each Sautikit number is one line identity for the trunk. For more lines or direct numbers per department, claim more numbers and add each as its own trunk or DID.
Not always. A Sautikit number can ring several staff, queue callers, follow business hours and answer with an AI agent on its own. See Sautikit vs 3CX.
