Use MicroSIP with a Kenyan Number
Set up MicroSIP on Windows with a Sautikit Kenyan number. The Add Account fields, the values to type, a test call, and fixes when it will not register.
To use MicroSIP with a Kenyan number, claim a Sautikit number (KES 116/month including VAT), add a device under the number's SIP & Devices tab, then in MicroSIP choose Add Account from the main menu. Set SIP server to sip.sautikit.com:5080, Domain to sip.sautikit.com, Username and Login to your generated username, Password to the generated password, and Transport to UDP. Save, and MicroSIP registers and can make and take calls on that number from your Windows PC.
In the Sautikit console, open Numbers, pick the number, go to the SIP & Devices tab and click + Add device. Label it with the PC or person, for example "Wanjiku laptop". Sautikit shows you:
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | sip.sautikit.com |
| Port | 5080 |
| Transport | UDP |
| Username | generated, for example ep3f9a1c2b4d5e6f7a8b9c |
| Password | generated |
If you lose the password, click SIP setup on the device's row to see the details again.
The API creates the same credential. The response carries username, password, host, port, transport and realm:
curl -s -X POST "https://api.sautikit.com/v1/numbers/$NUMBER_ID/sip-credentials" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SAUTIKIT_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"label": "Wanjiku laptop"}'| MicroSIP field | Value |
|---|---|
| SIP server | sip.sautikit.com:5080 |
| SIP proxy | leave empty |
| Username | your generated username |
| Domain | sip.sautikit.com |
| Login | your generated username (the same value) |
| Password | your generated password |
| Display name | your name or your business name |
| Transport | UDP |
The :5080 at the end of SIP server is the part people miss. Without a port, SIP apps use 5060, and Sautikit listens on 5080. If MicroSIP will not register, check this first.
MicroSIP's documentation says the Login field falls back to Username when it is empty, so you can leave it blank. Filling it in with the same value does no harm.
If Windows Firewall asks whether MicroSIP may use the network, allow it on the networks you will call from. Without it, calls can ring but carry no audio.
Type your own mobile number in full international format, for example +254712345678, and press call. Your mobile should ring and show your Sautikit number. Then call the Sautikit number from your mobile: MicroSIP should ring on the PC.
MicroSIP will not register. Check SIP server is sip.sautikit.com:5080, not sip.sautikit.com alone, and Transport is UDP. Check Domain has no sip: prefix or port. Then check the PC is online and that an office firewall is not blocking outgoing UDP.
Registration fails with a password or authentication error. Copy the password again: in the Sautikit console, click SIP setup on the device's row. Make sure there is no space at the start or end. Username must be the generated username, not your phone number.
It worked, then a desk phone or another PC dropped off. Each credential is for one device. If two devices share a username, they get in each other's way and calls may not reach the one you expect. Add a separate device for each PC or phone on the number's SIP & Devices tab.
Calls connect with no sound, or one-way sound. Allow MicroSIP through Windows Firewall, and check the router is not rewriting SIP traffic (a setting usually called SIP ALG).
Outgoing calls fail but registration is fine. Check your Sautikit wallet has credit. Top up with M-Pesa or card from the console.
MicroSIP is a free Windows app. On the Sautikit side you pay KES 116 a month including VAT for the number, nothing for incoming calls, and KES 3.00 a minute for outgoing calls, billed per second.
At the end of the SIP server field, after a colon: sip.sautikit.com:5080. Leave Domain as sip.sautikit.com without a port.
Yes. Add one device for MicroSIP and another for the desk phone under the number's SIP & Devices tab, so each has its own username and password. Each number has a device limit, shown on that tab.
No, MicroSIP is Windows only. On Android, iOS or Mac you can use Zoiper with the same settings, or SautiKit Phone, which needs no SIP setup.
SautiKit Phone is the zero-setup option: sign in and your number works, with no server, port or password to type. It runs on Windows, the web and Android, with iOS and macOS in beta on TestFlight.
