Connect a Grandstream Phone to a Kenyan Number
Register a Grandstream GRP, GXP or DP desk phone to a Sautikit Kenyan number. The exact web UI fields, values to type, and fixes when it will not register.
To use a Grandstream desk phone with a Kenyan number, claim a Sautikit number (KES 116/month including VAT), add a device under the number's SIP & Devices tab, then open the phone's web page and go to Account → Account 1 → General Settings. Set SIP Server to sip.sautikit.com:5080, SIP User ID and SIP Authentication ID to your generated username, SIP Authentication Password to the password, and SIP Transport to UDP. The phone registers within a minute and can make and take calls on that number.
In the Sautikit console, open Numbers, pick the number, go to the SIP & Devices tab and click + Add device. Give it a label such as "Reception GRP2612". Sautikit shows you:
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | sip.sautikit.com |
| Port | 5080 |
| Transport | UDP |
| Username | generated, for example ep3f9a1c2b4d5e6f7a8b9c |
| Password | generated |
If you close the window before copying the password, click SIP setup on the device's row to see the details again.
You can create the same credential with the API. The response carries username, password, host, port, transport and realm:
curl -s -X POST "https://api.sautikit.com/v1/numbers/$NUMBER_ID/sip-credentials" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SAUTIKIT_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"label": "Reception GRP2612"}'| Grandstream field | Value |
|---|---|
| Account Active | Yes |
| Account Name | Any name, for example Sautikit |
| SIP Server | sip.sautikit.com:5080 |
| SIP User ID | your generated username |
| SIP Authentication ID | your generated username (the same value) |
| SIP Authentication Password | your generated password |
| Name | the name you want shown on the screen |
| SIP Transport | UDP |
The port matters more than anything else on this page. Grandstream phones assume port 5060 when you leave it out, and Sautikit listens on 5080. Typing sip.sautikit.com without :5080 is the most common reason a phone never registers.
http://192.168.1.50. Sign in as the admin user. The admin password is printed on the label under the phone on newer units; older units use the factory default.DP DECT systems split the settings in two. Under Profiles, pick a profile, open General Settings and set SIP Server to sip.sautikit.com:5080; under that profile's SIP Settings, set SIP Transport to UDP. Then, in the base station's SIP account settings, set Account Active to Yes, choose that profile, and enter your username in SIP User ID and Authenticate ID and your password in the account's password field. Assign the account to the handsets that should ring. Status → Account Status shows SIP Registration as YES once it works.
Dial your own mobile number from the phone in full international format, for example +254712345678. Your mobile should show your Sautikit number as the caller. Then call the Sautikit number from your mobile: the Grandstream should ring.
If you have two devices on the same workspace, you can give each one a four-digit internal extension when you add it and dial between them. Calls between two of your own registered devices are free.
SIP Registration stays at No. Check the SIP Server field ends in :5080 and SIP Transport is UDP. Then check the phone has internet access from the network it is plugged into.
Registration fails with an authentication error. The password was mistyped or copied with a space. In the Sautikit console, click SIP setup on the device's row, copy the password again and paste it into SIP Authentication Password. Make sure SIP User ID and SIP Authentication ID are both the generated username, not your phone number.
It worked, then another phone stopped registering. Each credential belongs to one device. If two phones share a username they fight over the registration. Add a separate device for each phone; the SIP & Devices tab shows how many devices the number has and its limit.
Calls connect but there is no audio. Some office routers rewrite SIP traffic (a feature usually called SIP ALG). Turn it off in the router and reboot the phone.
Any Grandstream phone that registers with a SIP username and password, which includes the GRP, GXP and DP series. Sautikit does not certify individual models; if the phone has a SIP Server field and a password field, it can use a Sautikit number.
Sautikit's SIP server listens on port 5080. Grandstream phones default to 5060, so you must add :5080 to the SIP Server field. Without it the phone sends its registration to the wrong port and never gets an answer.
Yes. Add one device per phone under the number's SIP & Devices tab, so each phone gets its own username and password. Each number has a device limit, shown on that tab.
The number is KES 116 a month including VAT. Incoming calls are free. Outgoing calls are KES 3.00 a minute, billed per second from when the call connects. There is no setup fee.
Yes. Set the number to forward calls to one or more destinations, one after another or all at once, with voicemail if nobody answers. A registered desk phone can be one of those destinations by its internal extension.
If you do not have a handset, SautiKit Phone needs no SIP setup at all: sign in and your number works. It runs on the web, Android and Windows, with iOS and macOS in beta on TestFlight.
