## Summary

To use Zoiper with a Kenyan number, claim a Sautikit number (KES 116/month including VAT), add a device under the number's **SIP & Devices** tab, then add a SIP account in Zoiper by manual configuration. Enter your generated username and password, and set the hostname to `sip.sautikit.com:5080` (the `:5080` is required, because Zoiper assumes port 5060 otherwise). Use UDP if Zoiper asks for a transport. The account turns green once registered, and Zoiper can then make and take calls on that number.

## What you need

- **A Sautikit number.** KES 116 a month including VAT, no setup fee, live in seconds from the console or the API. Inbound calls are free; outbound calls cost KES 3.00 a minute, billed per second.
- **Zoiper 5** on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac or Linux, from [zoiper.com](https://www.zoiper.com) or your app store.
- **A data or Wi-Fi connection** on the device.

## Get your SIP details from Sautikit

In the [Sautikit console](https://app.sautikit.com), open **Numbers**, pick the number, go to the **SIP & Devices** tab and click **+ Add device**. Label it with the device, for example "Otieno Android". Sautikit shows you:

| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | `sip.sautikit.com` |
| Port | `5080` |
| Transport | UDP |
| Username | generated, for example `ep3f9a1c2b4d5e6f7a8b9c` |
| Password | generated |

If you lose the password, click **SIP setup** on the device's row to see the details again.

The API creates the same credential. The response carries `username`, `password`, `host`, `port`, `transport` and `realm`:

```bash
curl -s -X POST "https://api.sautikit.com/v1/numbers/$NUMBER_ID/sip-credentials" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SAUTIKIT_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"label": "Otieno Android"}'
```

## Zoiper settings

| Zoiper field | Value |
|---|---|
| Account name | Any name, for example `Sautikit` |
| Username | your generated username |
| Password | your generated password |
| Hostname (called **Domain** in desktop account settings) | `sip.sautikit.com:5080` |
| Authentication username (**Use auth. Username** on desktop) | leave empty |
| Outbound proxy | leave empty |
| Transport | UDP |

**Why manual configuration.** Zoiper assumes the standard SIP port, 5060, unless you tell it otherwise. Sautikit listens on **5080**, so the port has to be written into the hostname. Zoiper's own guide says a non-default port goes at the end of the hostname after a colon, which is exactly `sip.sautikit.com:5080`.

## Steps on Android

These are the steps in Zoiper's own Android guide.

1. Open Zoiper and go to **Config → Accounts → Add account**.
2. When asked **Do you already have an account?**, choose **Yes**.
3. Choose **Manual Configuration**, then **SIP**.
4. Enter an **Account name**, then your **Username**, **Password** and **Hostname** (`sip.sautikit.com:5080`) from the table above.
5. Tap **Save**. Zoiper says the account should register within about 30 seconds, shown by a green check mark next to the account name.
6. If it does not register, open the account again and check its network settings use UDP.

## Steps on iPhone

Zoiper for iOS asks for the same information. Add a new SIP account, choose to configure it yourself rather than picking a provider, and enter your username, password and `sip.sautikit.com:5080` as the host or domain. Leave any authentication username and outbound proxy fields empty, and pick UDP if you are offered a transport. iOS may ask for microphone and notification permission; allow both so calls can ring and carry sound.

## Steps on Windows, Mac and Linux

1. Open Zoiper's **Settings** (the settings button next to the default account, or the button at the bottom of the main window) and go to **Accounts**.
2. Add a SIP account. If Zoiper starts a setup wizard instead, give it the same username, password and `sip.sautikit.com:5080`, and leave any optional authentication or outbound proxy step empty.
3. In the account's settings, check **Domain** is `sip.sautikit.com:5080`, **Username** and **Password** match Sautikit, and **Use auth. Username** and **Outbound proxy** are empty.
4. Set the account's transport to UDP.
5. Back on the main window, the icon next to the account shows a check mark when it is registered, a dark X when it is not, and an animated circle while it tries.

## Make a test call

Dial your own mobile number in full international format, for example `+254712345678`. Your mobile should ring and show your Sautikit number. Then call the Sautikit number from your mobile: Zoiper should ring.

Phones can pause apps running in the background, which can stop any SIP app from ringing. If incoming calls are missed while Zoiper is closed, check the phone's battery settings allow Zoiper to run in the background.

## Troubleshooting

**The account never goes green.** Check the hostname or domain is `sip.sautikit.com:5080`, not `sip.sautikit.com` on its own, and the transport is UDP. If the account was added another way and will not register, delete the account and add it again by manual configuration.

**Authentication error or wrong password.** Copy the password again: in the Sautikit console, click **SIP setup** on the device's row. Paste it without spaces. **Username** must be the generated username, not your phone number, and the authentication username field should stay empty.

**Worked on one phone, stopped on another.** Each credential is for one device. Using the same username on two phones makes them get in each other's way. Add a separate device for each phone on the number's SIP & Devices tab.

**Calls connect with no sound.** Allow Zoiper's microphone permission. On Wi-Fi, try mobile data: some routers rewrite SIP traffic (a setting usually called SIP ALG) and break the audio.

**Outgoing calls fail but the account is green.** Check your Sautikit wallet has credit. Top up with M-Pesa or card from the console.

## FAQ

### Why does Zoiper not register with sip.sautikit.com?

Because it tries port 5060 when no port is given. Sautikit's SIP server listens on 5080, so the hostname must be `sip.sautikit.com:5080`.

### Where does the port go in Zoiper?

At the end of the hostname (or **Domain** on desktop), after a colon: `sip.sautikit.com:5080`. Zoiper's own guides put a non-default port in the hostname rather than in a separate field.

### Can I use Zoiper and a desk phone on the same number?

Yes. Add a separate device for each under the number's SIP & Devices tab so each has its own username and password. Each number has a device limit, shown on that tab.

### What does it cost to call from Zoiper?

The number is KES 116 a month including VAT, with no setup fee. Incoming calls are free. Outgoing calls are KES 3.00 a minute, billed per second from when the call connects.

## The zero-setup option: SautiKit Phone

[SautiKit Phone](/phone) is built for Sautikit numbers: sign in and it works, with no server, port or password to type. It runs on [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sautikit.phone), the [web](https://phone.sautikit.com) and [Windows](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9mxvnklz324k), with iOS and macOS in [beta on TestFlight](https://testflight.apple.com/join/sYaGFBDv).
